Three Indigenous councils on far north Queensland's western Cape York have joined forces to help protect endangered and vulnerable turtles.

WWF-Australia today welcomed the commitment of the Australian Government to commit $930,000 towards the management of marine turtles under the Working on Country program.

Experts from around the country are gathering in Townsville today to lead discussions about the rising number of sick and dying turtles on the Great Barrier Reef.

For the past three years, there have been record numbers of turtle strandings on North Queensland beaches, highlighting concerns for the health of turtle populations right across Australia.

The NERP Tropical Ecosystems Hub Third Annual Work Plan (AWP3) details the milestones to be completed by each Hub funded project in 2013-2014.
